CCS Staff

We believe one of the single most important factors in a child's success in the classroom is having a teacher that connects with the student.

Over the years we have prayerfully and diligently focused on assembling staff that will help students reach their full potential.  With classes small enough for each student to receive individual attention, faculty get to know each student and work to develop their potential. Each teacher and staff member brings a special "something" that brings out the best in our kids.

Mrs. Rita Bergsma, B.Ed., B.A., C.S.T.C.

"Teaching, for me, is more than just a job; it's an opportunity and a passion. The most rewarding aspect is providing opportunities for students to discover themselves, recognizing that God has given them gifts that are to be used for His glory. It is important that each student develop confidence in who God has made them to be, developing skills to handle both successes and failures with grace."

Mrs. Kathryn Vedder
Office Administrator

"I have been involved at CCS since before I had my own children, convicted that entrusting our community’s children to dedicated Christian teachers who share the values that are taught at home, is the best way to prepare our children for lives of service."

Mrs. Mary Ruth Downs; B.Ed., B.A. in E.C.E., O.C.T.
Junior & Senior Kindergarten

"Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens?
Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens?
Brown paper packages tied up with strings?
You can have those favourite things."

"Teaching Kindergarten combines so many of my favourite things like children, teaching, and my faith. I have wanted to be a Kindergarten teacher for as long as I can remember. It was with this goal in mind that I chose to do a four year degree in Early Childhood Education followed by my Bachelor of Education. I have now taught in Christian Schools for almost 25 years…time truly flies when you are spending every day with your favourite things and people."

Mrs. Jennifer Kettlewell, B.Sc. DipEd. O.C.T

Junior & Senior Kindergarten

““What children learn with emotion, they never forget.”  I first read this quote from Mem Fox when I studied in Australia and it has impacted my role as a mother and teacher.  I hope to create an environment in the Kindergarten classroom within which the children will remember how much God loves them.  I also have been privileged to travel many parts of the world and enjoy sharing my experiences of God’s diversity and awe-inspiring creativity with all students.”

Mrs. Stephanie Hoople; R.E.C.E
Extended Kindergarten Program Educator

"I attended CCS as a student so my love for this school runs deep. I feel blessed to now be able to teach here and have my children attend. What a privilege to show God’s love to His littlest ones by encouraging them in the start of their educational journey. CCS had a tremendous impact on my life growing up, and I am honoured that I am part of this community again, helping to shape the students here at CCS today.”

“We are beyond blessed at Community Christian School to be able to encourage one another’s faith walk as we learn and grow. God has a wonderful plan for us all! As the grade 1/2 teacher, I have the amazing privilege of walking alongside, and helping guide my students to grow into the unique individuals He intended them to be. I am thankful for this and the opportunity given to me to be their teacher.”

Mrs. Erin Hopkins; B.Ed., B.Mus., O.C.T.

Grades 1 & 2, 3 & 4, Choir

"It is a blessing to be able to continue my teaching career at CCS. It is truly a gift to be able to teach in a school that seeks to spread the love of our Lord. I believe that the best gift you can give to a child is to show them the love of God, the relevancy of Him in their lives and the world around them!"

"It is wonderful being a part of the CCS Community and having the opportunity to work with a great professional team and a diverse group of students. It truly is a blessing to see God at work in the lives of our students, as they learn and grow according to His purpose."

Mrs. Amber Dekker, B.Ed.,B.A,O.C.T.
Grades 5 & 6

“As a teacher, I’m constantly in awe knowing that God has entrusted my students, His individual children, into my care. It’s an incredible gift that comes with a great sense of responsibility. Teaching to me means providing each student with opportunities to know their Father more - by exploring His creation, discovering and using the gifts and skills He has given them, and finding their unique place in God’s kingdom.”

Mme. Susanne Rayson, O.C.T.
Grades 5 & 6; Core French/Gr. 5-8 Specialized French Programming

“Jesus calls us to be in the world, but not of the world. Here at CCS, I have the wonderful privilege of being able to help guide students towards confidently becoming the people God created them to be - in the world, but of God. I appreciate working in an environment consistent with my Christian faith and at CCS it is a blessing to work on such an encouraging and supportive team.

Mrs. Shelley Bakker
Educational Assistant, Learning Resource Specialist

"My husband and I have been a part of this school for almost thirty years now and witnessing our four children graduate from CCS has been a blessing. Having served in many roles here previously, I feel honoured to be able to help students recognize their God given strengths and build their confidence and abilities. It's truly a delight to help students "learn with the love of the Lord" and grow their learning success."

Mrs. Jennifer Post

Educational Assistant/Teacher Assistant/ Resource

“I have always loved spending time with children. After raising two of my own and volunteering in their classes, I was presented with the opportunity to work alongside Mrs. Downs in the kindergarten room. After seeing that light bulb go on and excitement expressed by students after learning something new, I knew that the classroom, working alongside teachers, was where I loved to be. They say it takes a village to raise a child; I am so excited to be a part of that village.”

Mrs. Heather Hall

Grades 6, 7 & 8 Band

“Praise God according to His excellent greatness! Praise Him with the trumpet, lute, harp, strings, pipe and clashing cymbals!”(Psalm 150)

“It brings me great joy to see students learning instruments with which they can praise the Lord together.”
